Rock climbing is a kind of activity in which the climber moves up and down or in a horizontal direction on natural cliffs or climbing walls via rope and special technical tools.

Places for Rock Climbing Tour of Iran

Rock climbing in the sleeping bridge area

Pol-e Khab region in Alborz province is a rock climbing area next to Karaj- Chalus road in a 70 kilometers distance to Tehran and it is located at the end of a side road. Tekieh Sepahsalar is a place in the region that overlooks Haft Khanha summit. Pol-e khab rock climbing region is situated in a 35 kilometers distance to Karaj city. Pol-e Khab wall, regarding its high altitude, is a suitable location for sport and big walls climbers and it has been long captivated the attention of Tehran and Karaj rock climbers. Regarding the variety of Pol-e Khab routes, the wall provides training opportunity for every level; additionally, it is a proper location for artificial and wall ascending. Therefore, most of the rock climbers who tend to ascend Alam wall start their training from the beginning of spring on this wall. Taking into consideration the high potential of Pol-e Khab, where hosts many rock climbers every week, introducing its routes is a matter of the greatest importance. Hence, everyone choose a special route regarding his/her abilities. It is 150 meters in height from the bottom of the wall to its peak and the highest ascending route is 110 meters. Nevertheless, there are other routes to finish the ascending which require special tools.

 

 

Rock climbing in Maku Free Zone

Every tourist who tends to enter Iran from Europe by land transport or exit Iran via Bazargan border should pass Maku city.

The city is 13 kilometers in length and 300 meters to 2 kilometers in width that is situated within a valley with a rich history. Exploring the history illustrates traces of Urartu ancient civilizations to the late Qajar dynasty in Maku.

However, apart from the glorious history of Maku, the city has a unique characteristic which differentiates it from other Iran free-trade zones or even throughout the world and it is the rocky nature of the city.  

The north edge of Maku is a giant rocky wall with a length more than 8 kilometers which resembles an integrated rocky wall surrounded the city. The wall is 150 to 600 meters in height from the valley bottom that is considered as one of the world's natural phenomenon.

Kuh-e Qayah is the largest curved rocky head in the world, with a negative gradient of 40 degrees in the wall, it surrounds the city that the ancient castle of Maku is situated on its underneath.

The above description is presented to introduce the heaven of rock climbing in Iran. Maku, regarding its giant rocky walls including Chirkin, Qayah, Sabad Daqi, Qarly Daq, Tekmeh mountains are scattered in a 500,000 hectares region where is an ideal place to hold regional, national and international rock climbing tours and festivals.

Although two national and international rock climbing festivals were held by the attempt of Maku Free Zone Organization, which surprised many national rock climbers of such a potential in the country, investing and working context is available in this section.

Regarding the location of Maku free-trade zone on the Europe gate and the presence of professional associations and clubs in European countries, cliffs of the region are attractive potentials for holding great tours and tournaments. 

Rock climbing in the Verdidge area

Vardij district is situated on an approximately 5 kilometers distance to northwest of Tehran, and the north of Vardavard district. The district has a beautiful pristine nature which has been neglected by officials for years to prevent illegal hunters' presence.   

There are various waterfalls, cliffs and rocky walls that captivate the attention of every mountaineer and rock climber.

Rolls were nailed on the walls and cliffs of the region and it was reopened by one of the local pioneers, Mr. Hadilou. The wall is situated in front of a rocky café (Paradise Café) on Vardij- Varish beautiful road (about 7 kilometers in the beginning of the road).
